Portrait of Language and Speech of Students in Elementary School Studied from The Use of Tiktok Social Media

Abstract


This study aims to examine the impact of TikTok social media use on the language and speech actions of elementary school students. In the era of globalization, technological developments, especially social media, affect the way we communicate and interact, especially among children. The method used was qualitative descriptive analytics with the subjects of three students in class V-B, a homeroom teacher, and three parents of students at SDN 1 Kemantren, Malang Regency. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation studies. The results of the study show that TikTok has a positive impact on enriching students' foreign language vocabulary, but also has a negative impact in the form of inappropriate language use and impolite speech. Supervision and coaching efforts from teachers and parents are needed so that students can use social media wisely. This research emphasizes the importance of collaboration between schools and families in accompanying children in the digital era.
