Implementation of Augmented Reality Puzzle in Thematic Learning on Environmental Education to Develop Naturalistic Intelligence and Social Values in Early Childhood
Abstract
This study aims to identify the development of children's naturalistic intelligence after participating in learning activities using Augmented Reality (AR)-based puzzles, as well as to explain how social values such as cooperation, sharing, and helping each other emerge during group activities. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach and was conducted at TK Dharma Wanita Jatimulyo, Kunir Subdistrict, Lumajang Regency. Data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and group discussions with teachers and students. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data display, and interpretative conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that the use of AR puzzles enhances children's naturalistic intelligence, which is reflected in their ability to recognize natural objects, distinguish types of plants or animals, and show curiosity toward environmental information. Additionally, social values emerged naturally during the activity, as children collaboratively assembled puzzles, took turns, offered assistance, and engaged in group
discussions. The implication of this research affirms that AR-based media not only enriches visual learning experiences but is also effective in developing cognitive and social aspects in early childhood
education. Therefore, teachers may apply AR as an interactive and collaborative alternative medium for thematic learning.
