PEMBENTUKAN KARAKTER MAHASISWA BERBASIS PENDIDIKAN INTERKULTURAL MELALUI PENDEKATAN CULTURAL PROJECT
Abstract
Abstract: The prevailing belief suggests that foreign language learning can transform learners' characters, shifting them from traditional values to a more Westernized mindset. This term carries negative connotations, often seen as conflicting with Eastern traditions. Consequently, interest in learning foreign languages declines. This issue needs immediate attention as, in the era of Society 5.0, foreign languages are vital for human resource development and play a key role in asserting the nation's position internationally. This paper aims to elucidate efforts in building students' multicultural competence as the basis for shaping scholarly, tolerant individuals, appreciating diversity, and valuing local wisdom as part of their identity and national heritage. The approach used is the cultural project, incorporating elements of project-based learning. Research findings indicate that this approach is reliable for developing intercultural competence in foreign language education, fostering Indonesian students ready to contribute in the Society 5.0 era.
