Analysis of the Potential of Leading Sectors and Mapping of Food Crops in Magetan Regency

Abstract


This study discusses the potential of leading sectors in agriculture, particularly in the food crop subsector, in Magetan Regency. The study aims to identify leading food crop commodities in Magetan Regency and map the production areas of leading food
crop commodities. The type of research used is a descriptive quantitative approach. The data sources used in this study are secondary data obtained from official publications of
the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and data from the National Food Agency. The data analysis techniques used are the Sectoral Contribution Index (SCI), Growth Ratio Model
(GRM), Dynamic Location Quotient (DLQ), Supply-Demand Ratio (SD), and Composite Index. Meanwhile, the mapping of production areas for key commodities was conducted using GIS at the sub-district level. The results show that corn, sweet potatoes,
and rice are the leading food crop commodities in Magetan Regency. Spatial analysis further identifies that priority production areas for these crops vary according to their bio-physical characteristics, with corn being the top priority commodity for development
due to its production surplus and competitive advantage.
