Abstract

The introduction of color into film marked an important moment in the history of film production. The transition from black and white films to color films opened up new avenues for directors and cinematographers to enhance storytelling through visual aesthetics. ""Blade Runner 2049"", a 2017 film directed by Denis Villeneuve is an excellent example of how color can be used to convey deep themes and messages in films. Examining the use of color in ""Blade Runner 2049"" using semiotics provides a unique perspective to decipher the underlying messages and intricacies of the film's narrative through the use of color. Therefore, the concept introduced by Mary Risk in her book ""How to Use Color in Film: 50+ Examples of Movie Color Palettes"" is very relevant. Mary Risk explains how the use of color schemes in films can provide deeper meaning.
