Abstract
Waste management is a significant challenge in supporting the green economy, especially in rural areas. This study aims to examine the implementation of SASIMI (Aquaponic System in Circular Economy) in Sumberejo Village, Batu District, Batu City, as an effort to reduce waste through the application of the 5R principles (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover, Replace). This system not only focuses on managing inorganic waste, such as plastic, which is repurposed as planting media in aquaponics, but also on the treatment of organic waste using maggots as biological agents to produce compost. The research findings indicate an increase in community awareness and participation in waste management, the implementation of aquaponic systems, and the adoption of circular economy practices. The SASIMI system has succeeded in creating a cleaner environment, reducing pollution, and supporting food security by cultivating plants and fish in limited spaces. However, challenges related to understanding and sustaining the system remain and need to be addressed through further education and development efforts.
