Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in economics education and its implications for the cognitive understanding of 11th-grade students in Class J MAN Kota Batu. The rapid development of AI technology presents both opportunities and challenges in the field of education, particularly regarding students’ independent learning and critical thinking skills. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, employing data collection techniques through observation and in-depth interviews with students at various levels of AI usage frequency. The results indicate that AI is actively utilized as a learning tool to search for information, clarify complex economic concepts, and support the completion of independent assignments, aligning with the principles of constructivist theory. Cognitively, the use of AI has a significant positive impact on the levels of remembering and understanding in Bloom’s Taxonomy. However, higher-order thinking skills such as analysis and evaluation have not developed optimally due to students’ tendency to accept instant answers without critical validation. This study concludes that while AI enhances the efficiency of material comprehension, there is a risk of dependency that may reduce learning autonomy. Therefore, teachers continue to play a crucial role as mentors in guiding the wise use of AI to support the development of students’ critical thinking skills and overall academic performance.
